Tsukiko

Barred Schools

There are eight magical schools, and necromancers, like other specialist wizards, must bar two of them. However, they are not allowed to bar divination. Of the seven remaining schools, Tsukiko casts spells from six of them, as follows:

Abjuration

  • None.

Conjuration

Divination

  • None.

Enchantment

Evocation

Illusion

Necromancy

Transmutation

  • Fly: In Strip 420 Tsukiko is released from prison to fight for Azure City. In Strip 446 she turns her coat to join Xykon. In the last panel she is seen flying. It is extremely unlikely that Xykon cast Fly on her. No magical items can be seen, and it is unlikely that Azure City gave her any in the first place. Hence, it is difficult to imagine that she cannot cast Fly on her own.

We can assume she has barred Abjuration, but it’s not clear what her other barred school is or how she casts a spell from it.

One choice to make this possible is the Spell Reprieve feat, from Lost Empires of Faerun.1 This lets Tsukiko learn and cast one spell of her choice from a prohibited school.

Fly and Invisibility are both good candidates for this, since they are workhorse spells for many wizards. However, by using multiple Spell Reprieve feats, she could do the same trick with Enchantment or Evocation. Hence, while there are many possible legal builds, it’s hard to know which one is correct.
